YOUNG Australian goalkeeper Adam Federici looks set to claim the number one shirt at Reading next season after the club released veteran stopper Marcus Hahnemann.

The 24-year-old Socceroos shotstopper impressed with the Royals when called upon last season and following Reading's failure to win promotion to the Premier League and the subsequent resignation of boss Steve Coppell, it is believed the club are ready to move in a new direction.

And that direction doesn't include veterans like Hahnemann along with Graeme Murty, Michael Duberry and Leroy Lita who have all been allowed to leave.

Reading director of football Nick Hammond said: "The players who are leaving will all be sorely missed, but this week has seen the end of an era and it's time for the club to move on."

Federici, who signed a deal with Reading last December keeping him at Madejski Stadium until the summer of 2011, is expected to be promoted to the club's regular number one in goals.

The Australian international appeared 18 times for the Royals last season, even scoring a crucial late equaliser against Cardiff City in December.

Fellow young Australian Oliver Bozanic has also been offered a new deal at Reading.
