MICHAEL Theoklitos has quit Melbourne Victory to seek a fresh challenge overseas after turning down a new deal with the A-League champions.
Victory confirmed today that Theoklitos will part ways with the club when his current contract expires on June 30.
Theoklitos, 28, spent four seasons with Melbourne Victory, playing a significant role in the club's two Premierships and Championships, and claimed the inaugural A-League Goalkeeper of the Year title in 2006/07.
The goalkeeper made no secret of his aspirations to further his career overseas throughout 2008/09 and took the opportunity to trial with several clubs abroad following Melbourne Victory's Grand Final win earlier this year.
Mitch Langerak, 20, and Glen Moss, 26, who are both contracted for the next three and two years respectively, will now compete for the position of Melbourne Victory's first choice custodian.
"Michael is an inaugural Melbourne Victory playing squad member who has been a fantastic servant of the club over the past four years," Melbourne Victory Football Operations Manager Gary Cole said.
"He has been a vital part of our two Championship and Premiership teams and we are very appreciative of his services.
"Michael was offered a contract, which he rejected. He has ambitions to play overseas and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
"While he will be missed, we're in a fantastic position with Mitchell and Glen, who are both outstanding goalkeepers and prospects for 2009/10 and beyond."
It isn't yet clear where Theoklitos will be playing his football next season.
