Reds Get Past Perth In Friendly

ADELAIDE United defeated an understrength Perth Glory 1-0 in a pre-season friendly match at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday night.

Reds skipper Travis Dodd kicked the winning goal in the 25th minute to ensure the win against an undermanned Perth outfit.

"We were happy, especially with the first half," Adelaide coach Aurelio Vidmar said. "The first 45 minutes was really good, the intensity was fantastic and we were dynamic in terms of our ball movement and going forward.

"In the second half we slowed up, and that's understandable because we had a few players not match conditioned yet."

Perth coach Dave Mitchell was pleased with the effort of his team which included three first-year players and a trialist in the starting XI.

"Adelaide came out strong from the start of the game, that was to be expected from a team that has spent a fair bit of time together," he said. "We just took our time getting up to speed and that was the main difference between the sides.

"The goal was well worked and reward for Adelaide's dominance in the opening period however I was pleased with how our lads regrouped and it was an even second half with chances for both sides."

Glory now look ahead to their bumper exhibition matches against English Premier League teams Wolverhampton and Fulham on July 10 and 15 respectively at Members Equity Stadium.

Adelaide next faces Hyundai A-League new boys North Queensland Fury in Darwin on Thursday.
