Sydney Rovers - Official...

EXCLUSIVE: Football Federation Australia have let slip the name and identity of the new Western Sydney club to join the A-League in 2011.

Internet and trademark documents have revealed the new club will be known as Sydney Rovers FC, and will likely feature a red, black and white colour scheme.

The sport's ruling body in Australia registered the domain name www.sydneyroversfc.com.au and filed a trademark application for the club crest and badge.

The new club is set to join the A-League in 2011 after the FFA this week confirmed it was delaying expansion to a 12 team competition for a year.

However the new logo - approved and owned by the FFA - was updated on the Australian trademark register a week earlier, on September 22.

It is understood the bid consortium specifically wanted this particular design and name officially registered as soon as possible.

The winning bid - headed by former Young Socceroo Ian Rowden - was put together in just a month after Joe Meissner's bid collapsed at the final hurdle.

They won out despite strong bids from other West Sydney hopefuls as well as bids from Canberra, South Coast and Tasmania.

An FFA spokesperson this afternoon confirmed: "The FFA owns the registered name of every team name, and a variety of potential team names, in the Hyundai A-League."
