Gold Coast Slash Prices Too

GOLD Coast United have joined Brisbane Roar in slashing ticket prices in a bid to attract the stayaway crowds to Skilled Park.

The club today announced a new children's ticket price ahead of their clash with title rivals Perth Glory this Sunday with all child tickets now just $5.00 in any seating category except Platinum.

Family tickets are also more affordable, starting from just $68 for two adults and two children.

The move comes after the public outcry over ticket prices at Skilled Park and neighbouring rivals Brisbane Roar which have led to dismally poor attendance figures at both stadiums.

Now football bosses hope the cheaper prices will lure supporters to the games, along with this weekend's added highlight of star-studded teamsheets.

With United's Jason Culina and Shane Smeltz, along with Perth's Mile Sterjovski, Jacob Burns and Chris Coyne all in action, Sunday's match is a chance for local fans to watch five current international players play at Skilled Park.

United CE, Clive Mensin, said the club was delighted to kick off the new children's ticket price and hoped the initiative would drive families to what is certain to be an entertaining game.

"After listening to discussions within the community, the Gold Coast United Board decided to introduce the $5.00 ticket price for kids because we saw it as a great opportunity for parents to bring their children to Skilled Park and introduce them to the biggest game in the world," Mensink said.

"We want to give the Gold Coast community a team to be proud of and our players the support they deserve.

"This ticketing initiative now presents a tremendous opportunity for the Gold Coast community to show their support for their team - a team that has a great chance of winning the Hyundai A-League and bringing sporting success to our city."

In support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Sunday's match is billed as ‘The Pink Day Out', with supporters encouraged to show their support for the cause by coming along to the game decked out in pink.

At half-time, three lucky pink-clad fans will be plucked from the grandstands and given the chance to win a signed pair of Shane Smeltz's boots if they can score a goal against Gold Coast United Youth goalkeeper, Jerrad Tyson.

The players will also be supporting the Pink Day Out initiative by sporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation logo on the back of their shirts, as well as wearing funky pink laces in their boots.
