EXCLUSIVE: Channel 10 will launch their new local HD channel football show next month with a prime-time Monday night slot featuring Socceroos, A-League and world football.
World Football News will air at 10pm on the eastern seaboard from February 8 on Channel 10's HD channel ONE - Australia's first free-to-air 24-hour sports channel.
The one-hour panel show will be a news-based programme covering the previous week's football around the world and previewing the week ahead.
The show will also feature interviews with key players, coaches and members of the world football community.
The host is former SKY Sports News and BBC journalist Chris Bailey who'll be joined by one or two panellists each week. These guests will be local football identities relevant to each week's major news story.
"All the leagues will come under the spotlight, depending on what is the major news of the week," Gus Seebeck, Channel Ten program manager of sport, told au.fourfourtwo.com today.
The show will also dedicate time to the Socceroos' road to South Africa and will run right through till the World Cup. World Football News is expected to continue after the World Cup, said Seebeck.
"The A-League will certainly be one of our major focuses as well as the leagues where other Australians are playing too," he said.
ONE currently also airs Bundesliga and Serie A highlights. Channel 10 also broadcast the high-profile LA Galaxy versus Sydney FC clash in November 2007 featuring David Beckham.
Seebeck added: "It's designed as a one-stop shop on free-to-air for football fans to catch up on the week in football throughout the world.
"And we feel this show can standalone regardless of what football rights we currently have or are looking at in the future.
"We feel Monday night at 10pm is when we really start to peak our viewers and will work well."
