FOOTBALL Federation Australia have confirmed they will review their transfer rules in the wake of the furious backlash over Nik Mrdja's move to Melbourne Victory.
Central Coast Mariners last week revealed they had terminated Mrdja's contract for this season to allow him to join Melbourne Victory for six months, before returning to the Mariners on a new one year contract for next season.
The move on the eve of the finals series - which is effectively a loan, but outwith the transfer window which would allow it - sparked outrage among fans and commentators for making a mockery of the A-League's transfer system.
"This one is slightly different with the timing at the end of the year and the fact he indicated he may head back to Central Coast," A-League operations chief Archie Fraser told AAP.
"We're going to review the injury replacement rule at the end of the current season. We have listened to clubs, and the feedback about the rule, and it appears there are many people who feel it's not in the right spirit."
"So under that basis it will be reviewed as we review all our regulations at the season's end."
