GIANFRANCO ZOLA...Agent 'mystified' by Victory job speculation
EXCLUSIVE: Gianfranco Zola’s Australian representative has totally denied reports that the Chelsea legend was on his way to Australia to discuss the vacant Melbourne Victory coaching position.
Fox Sports News tonight reported Zola was flying into the country to speak with the Victory board about the vacant coaching position.
It became vacant again after au.fourfourtwo.com had broken the news yesterday that the club had parted ways with interim coach Jim Magilton after Victory failed to reach the finals.
But the agent who has sole negotiating rights for Zola in this country, Buddy Farah, has told au.fourfourtwo.com that the reports of Zola to Victory are totally untrue and mere speculation.
Farah recently spent time with the former Azzurri favourite in Italy and said the ex Hammers boss was currently being offered deals with European clubs.
"It's not true," he said of the reports. "He's in Europe and I can tell you he's fielding offers from some very big European clubs.
“Besides, do you think Gianfranco Zola would come to meet the Victory board? They’d be going to meet him,” a bemused Farah added.
In Italy today, the respected Corriere Dello Sport reported that Zola was lined up to take the hotseat at Lazio at the end of this season, replacing Edy Reja.
Farah, the man behind the deal for talented teen Julius Davies to Victory and the short-term deal of Mark Milligan to the A-League powerhouse, said he was mystified by the reports linking him to Melbourne.
It’s the same response Farah gave three months ago when it was speculated that Zola was in the frame for the Victory job following Mehmet Durakovic's axing – a job that was ultimately given to the Northern Irishman on a short-term basis.
