The Matildas say they need games against European opposition if they are to achieve their dream of World Cup glory in September.
Speaking exclusively with au.fourfourtwo.com, attacking defender Heather Garriock has voiced her concern over the preparatory schedule leading into China and the World Cup in four months’ time. “Over the last two years or so, we really haven’t come up against European nations. It’s been about two or three years since we played Canada.
“We haven’t played Norway over the last eight or nine years and Ghana are a very difficult opponent,” she said tonight.
“In terms of the Asian nations, I think we’ve worked them out. In 12 games, I think we’ve only conceded four goals which is unbelievable. We’re dominating the Asian teams physically.
“I think trying to play against some European nations is a must but unfortunately it looks like we’re not going to get the opportunity. So we’re just going to have to collectively play well, train well and maybe play against some boys teams.”
The Matildas have been drawn with Ghana, Canada and Norway in the group stage of World Cup 2007.
“Norway and Canada are very direct and physical,” added fellow Matilda Di Alagich.
