Alan Wright's Sydney FC deal has officially fallen through with the player opting for a non-contract arrangement with Cheltenham Town.
Last night, Wright played 90 minutes for Cheltenham against Swindon Town in his new side's 3-1 win in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy cup competition.What's more, it was the 36-year-old who secured the third goal on 67 minutes. His right wing cross was turned in by Swindon's Ben Tozer to restore Cheltenham's two goal advantage.
Cheltenham caretaker boss Keith Downing signed Wright on non-contract terms late on Monday and he was put straight into Town's side as cover.
The 36-year-old was a free agent, having been without a club since leaving Sheffield United in the summer.
Sydney had showed interest but the two parties could not come to an agreement on the deal's financial arrangements which would've entailed Wright being a guest player.
For Sydney, their search continues for a left back and/or a striker.
While Sydney FC was unavailable for comment, sources close to the player say the deal is still a possibility over the next few weeks.
"It's amicable with Sydney. Alan took the offer from Cheltenham as it was presented to him prior to Sydney offering anything concrete. So he took it and was a able to play immediately.
"It's a non-contract basis so things could change but at the moment, he's with Cheltenham Town where he enjoyed a very good debut last night. The door's certainly not closed at this stage for something with Sydney."
