“We'll try hard and often when that happens, you succeed. Imagine what a World Cup would do for this country?" he said today at the lauch of FFA's national development plan.
“We want to prepare a team for that.”
FIFA has scrapped its rotation policy, thus opening the door for an Australian World Cup in the future.
“Australia is behind the game and we want to back this up with our youngsters," Lowy added. "The government is also supportive of this idea. Both parties have declared their interest.
“This is my dream and I think it's shared by Australia. It's ambitious but we'll work towards it.
"From our discussions with FIFA's various constituents, I'm told we have a fair chance, a reasonable chance and I'm hoping it becomes a certainty.”
Lowy was keen to also stress that a World Cup bid is not just about him.
“There's a lot of work ahead of me, I know that," he said. "I'm only one man and we have a team here.
“My success will be success as part of a team. I'll do what I can, and everyone else will do what they can and hopefully we'll get there.”
