Cristiano Ronaldo unveiled the new Nike Mercurial Vapor football boot against Newcastle this weekend, knocking in a hat-trick for good measure. But did he have to hide them from Fergie?

The Portuguese hot-shot helped his boot sponsors Nike launch their new Mercurial Vapor boot – styled in a distinctive fluoro orange colour - by knocking in a second half hat-trick against Newcastle United on the weekend.

But if history is anything to go by, Ronaldo might have had to sneak past Alex Ferguson to get them on the pitch.

Old school Fergie is reported not to be overly happy with his players wearing coloured boots and has told players they weren't allowed to play in certain boots in the past.

But with Ronaldo knocking in three in United 6-0 win over managerless Newcastle, we reckon even the Scottish supremo is a fan of the boots now.

The new Mercurial Vapor is all about making the player faster, with a new aerodynamic design and re-engineered upper.
