SEASON one A-League hero Dwight Yorke is keen on a return to Australia as he looks to combine coaching with playing duties.

Yorkie, who guided Sydney FC to the inaugural A-League Championship in 2005/06, is out of contract with Premier League side Sunderland and is currently weighing up his options for a new deal.

With Roy Keane's side interested in re-signing the 36-year-old, sources close to the striker say he's open to a return to the A-League if he can find a team who will allow him to coach as well as play.

Yorke is currently completing his FIFA "B" coaching licence, and while he has already confirmed that Manchester United and other Premier League clubs will assist him to enhance his coaching skills, he's also open to returning to the A-League.

"Dwight's made no secret that he loves it here in Australia," said a source close to the star. "If he can find a team in the A-League that is the right fit, both playing and coaching-wise, there's every chance he'll be in Australia for the new season."
