Australia NewsViduka's Coming Back |
SOCCEROO Mark Viduka could be back in action for Australia in June after he agreed to carry on his international career.
The Newcastle United star met with Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek in England this week and gave a commitment to turn out in the green and gold once more. Now he could feature in the crunch series of matches Australia faces in June on their World Cup qualifying campaign for South Africa 2010.
Australia have four crucial matches in quick succession - and Viduka's role could be vital in the punishing end of season schedule.
Although he's unlikely to play in all the games, Verbeek is confident the burly hitman will turn up to help his nation's cause.
"Mark made it clear that if he is fit he will available to help us qualify for the 2010 World Cup," said Verbeek.
"Of course, we may have to use him sparingly because he is coming back from a long time of not being fully fit, but this is a big boost for us.
"I'll discuss that with him closer to the time and if Mark is fit then of course he will come in to consideration."
He added: "He's feeling great at the moment, he's scoring goals for his club and he still has the hunger to do well for his country.
"It was the first time I'd met him in person and it was a very positive experience."
