MARK Schwarzer is reportedly the subject of renewed interest from Bayern Munich but his current club have today insisted he has not told them he wants to quit Middlesbrough.

It is no secret the 35-year-old is anxious for a two-year contract as he looks towards the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.

His current deal on Teeside runs out at the end of the season and the keeper is free to talk to other clubs.

Munich is one possible destination with European Champions League football almost guaranteed for next season.

Italian clubs Juventus and Fiorentina are also thought to be monitoring his situation.

But chief executive Keith Lamb insists that Middlesbrough have not received any indication that Schwarzer has made up his mind to leave.

Lamb told the Northern Echo newspaper: “Mark Schwarzer and the club agreed some time ago that there would be no discussions with regard to his contract until the season is over. That remains the case.”

Tottenham’s Paul Robinson is top of manager Gareth Southgate’s list to replace the Australian keeper if he chooses to move on.

The Echo also claims that three unnamed English Premier League clubs are keen to sign Schwarzer.

Schwarzer was ruled out of Saturday’s defeat to Bolton with a back problem and Southgate has since gone on record and praised Ross Turnbull’s performance between the sticks.
