EXCLUSIVE: Sources close to Ljubo Milicevic have not denied reports the ex-Melbourne Victory defender will sign for Gary Van Egmond’s A-League champions Newcastle Jets.

“Ljubo has been laying low lately but he’s training and keeping fit,” a source close to the player told au.fourfourtwo.com today.

“As for the rumours about a move to Newcastle, well, at the moment that’s a no comment,” said the source.

Milicevic, 27, parted ways with the season two champions after the last A-League season and has been in limbo ever since.

Van Egmond has stated he believes Milicevic – a former Basle, Thun and Young Boys of Berne defender or midfielder - is what his squad needs following mass defections after his side won the A-League grand final in February.

The Jets begin their pre-season on May 12.
