EXCLUSIVE The Italian FA has hinted Serie A clubs visiting Australia could be an increasingly regular part of the domestic football calendar.
Speaking at the announcement of the partnership between the FFA and Italian Football Federation (FIGC), president Dr Giancarlo Abete told au.fourfourtwo.com that his federation would encourage clubs to tour.“The biggest Italian clubs are very much international oriented,” he said through a translator.
“So more often they will come to Australia but also in Asia."
An example of this can be seen on Friday night when Italian legends Juventus play Melbourne Victory as part of the Bianconeri’s three-match Asian tour.
If the tour is deemed a success, this together with the FFA/FIGC partnership will improve the chances of a Serie A club touring Australia again.
“We have an excellent relationship with our clubs in Italy. As well, we have an excellent relationship with our professional leagues," added the President.
“Obviously we will promote through the media this agreement [with the FFA] to give an example, to show to our clubs that we have to be open to the rest of the world.”
