NEWCASTLE Jets have lost out to Scottish side Hibernian in the race to land former Melbourne Victory defender Jo Keenan.

According to reports in the Hunter, the Edinburgh-based side have handed Keenan a two-year deal after a successful trial spell with the club.

Keenan had trained/trialled with the Jets before embarking on his Scottish trip and van Egmond will now have to go back to his list of targets.

As the Jets prepared to take on Central Coast Mariners in Canberra today, van Egmond was not about to start panicking on the recruitment front.

He told the Herald: "We want to get our squad here as soon as possible, but there are limitations on certain things.

"We are up to about plan G, but the last thing we want to do is panic and bring in someone who is recommended but does not have the right quality. You have to do your due diligence correctly."
