Lippi Return Could Herald Totti Comeback

Roma captain Francesco Totti has not ruled out a return to the Italy squad, a year after calling time on his international career.

Totti is good friends with returning Italy boss Marcello Lippi and speculation has been rife that he would reverse his decision and link up once again with the coach who steered the Azzurri to their World Cup success two years ago.

However, the 31-year-old - who is recovering from knee surgery - remained coy about the possibility of donning the Azzurri shirt again, insisting he is only concentrating on being fit for the start of the Serie A season.

"I have an excellent relationship with Lippi, on and off the pitch, and we are often in contact," Totti told Sky Italia.

"It's up to him but at the moment I'm concentrating on my recovery.

"I haven't talked about it with Lippi yet, we have to weigh things up."

Totti is recovering well from the surgery he underwent in April and has targeted the Italian Super Coppa against Internazionale on August 24, as the date for his return.

Despite missing 13 games last season, the Giallorossi playmaker finished as the team's top scorer with 14 goals.

And the Roma talisman is eager to make up for lost time as he claims he will remain at the capital club for the rest of his career.

"For the club I have the greatest respect, the greatest esteem," he added. "And it's as if I've already signed, because I talked to the president a long time ago.

"He has always told me that I would sign here for life - for that reason I think that soon, or sooner rather than later, I will sign for all my life."
