Emmanuel Petit has become the latest former France international to criticise the country's governing body for keeping faith with under-fire national team coach Raymond Domenech.

David Trezeguet retired from international football on Wednesday, the Juventus striker citing the French Football Federation's (FFF) failure to sack the Domenech as the reason for his decision.

One day later, erstwhile Les Bleus players Christophe Dugarry and Youri Djorkaeff also hit out at the FFF, blaming them for the loss of Trezeguet.

Now Petit has sided with his former team-mates, branding the FFF's decision a "smack in the mouth" for French football fans.

"I agree with Trezeguet," Petit told France Football. "We dare not say that the French national team reached an impasse at the European Championships.

"It's a pretence, a real smack in the mouth. There is not a single man on the Federal Council who has been on the pitch.

"Some people should be ashamed to look at themselves in the mirror."

The FFF last week decided to retain Domenech despite growing doubts over his suitability following France's dismal performance at Euro 2008.
