Australia News Skoko's Hajduk Split Decision

FORMER Socceroo Josip Skoko has joined Hajduk Split for the second time in his career after agreeing a two-year deal.

Skoko had been linked with a return to Croatia following his departure from English Premier League outfit Wigan Athletic at the end of last season and the player is delighted to be back at what he has labelled his 'second home'.

The 32-year-old told revealed he had other offers but relished the chance to return to the side he made more than 100 appearances for between 1995 and 1999.

He immediately set his sights on winning a spot in the Champions League but is just happy to have his immediate future sorted. He told www.index.hr/sport: "When they made a bid in front of me, we all resolved in a few minutes. Let's say I am very satisfied with the contract.

"This is my second home for me and a lot of emotion tied to this area."

Having spent the last couple of seasons helping Wigan Athletic successfully battle relegation from the Premier League, Skoko says he is looking forward to spending life at the top of a league rather than looking nervously over his shoulders.

He said: "What is positive is that I will not fight for survival but for the title of champion of state and league champion."

Taking a look at his new teammates, Skoko feels the blend of youth and experience is right at Split.

The player is confident it won't be long before he is up to speed with fitness and ready to join in with his new colleagues.

He said: "I have worked according to a program that I have received from England and I think that I will very quickly catch everyone else."
