SOCCEROOS striker Scott McDonald is out to end a depressing goal drought when Manchester City visit Celtic overnight.
The Australian has failed to find the net in seven warm up matches so far with his last goal for the club coming at Parkhead back on May 11. He will be hoping to enjoy that scoring feeling again before the big kick off when Mark Hughes brings his team north.
There will be strong competition for places at Celtic this season, McDonald having to make do with a substitute's role against Feyenoord recently, Georgios Samaras handed a start.
McDonald told the Glasgow Evening Times: "When you bring in new players, it does freshen up the team.
"With the squad we have, it's good enough for the SPL. For the other tournaments, we would like to have more quality players in.
"It's tough in the market, we can't compete with the big guys. But we will do our very best.
"We're a massive club but we have to play with what we've got. The gaffer knows that and supporters realise that as well.
"But if the manager can bring in someone who can help the team he will. It won't be any Tom, Dick or Harry but a player to improve us."
McDonald recently signed a new long term deal with Celtic after a tremendous campaign with the Scottish champions.
