ERNIE Merrick is predicting a bright green and gold future for sudden death star Sebastian Ryall.

While the headlines have been dominated by the capture of players such as Michael Thwaite and Ney Fabiano, Merrick has not been slow to pick out those already on the books.

Evan Berger's pre-season performances have been highlighted by Merrick and after seeing his team lift the Pre-Season Cup on Wednesday night, the coach was effusive in his praise of Sebastian Ryall.

The 19-year-old recruit from the Australian Institute of Sport helped keep Victory's third clean sheet in a row and even stepped forward to successfully convert the first sudden death penalty in the triumph over Wellington Phoenix.

Ryall coolly slotted home his kick past Glen Moss as Merrick's men eventually edged out their hosts 8-7.

Merrick said: "I have said all along that Sebastian Ryall is going to be a top player for Australia in the future.

"He has always stepped up to the mark."

Ryall is now expected to attend the next training camp for the Qantas Young Socceroos.
