Forlan: We Must Build on Colombia Win

Uruguay striker Diego Forlan claims his side's historic victory over Colombia will be worthless if they do not beat Ecuador on Wednesday in the eighth round of the World Cup qualifiers.

A 14th-minute header by Sebastian Eguren helped the Charruas to a 1-0 win in Bogota, their first ever triumph in Colombia in the World Cup Qualifiers.

Uruguay moved to third in the South American Qualifying Zone where they will remain if Chile and Brazil draw in Santiago on Sunday night, and Forlan hopes his side can maintain their good form.

"The early goal was crucial," said the Atletico Madrid forward. "We must enjoy this victory on the long flight back home.

"However, we must be aware that this victory has no sense if we don't beat Ecuador in midweek."

Meanwhile, captain Diego Lugano has called for fans to turn up in their droves at the Estadio Centenario, despite the match - which kicks-off at 5.40pm local time - affecting the working day.

"I know it is a quite difficult time to attend the stadium but I hope it will be crowded," he said. "It would be very nice to see the Centenario full of people cheering us."

The Fenerbahce defender added: "Uruguay are a very competitive team, very difficult to beat. We proved it (on Sunday).

"This group try to play good football and we have attitude in our soul."

Porto defender Jorge Fucile is banned for the Ecuador game and could be replaced in the starting XI by Barcelona's Martin Caceres.
