NEWCASTLE Jets have begun a global search to replace Edmundo Zura with the club adamant it won't be rushing into a hasty decision it could later regret.

Zura's exit on Monday leaves the current A-League champions with a spot to fill and newly-appointed high performance manager Ian Crook is on the case.

Finding a goalscorer who fits the club's financial structure is no simple matter and Crook is adamant the Jets will not jump at the first player that becomes available.

He told the Herald: "I have spoken to people in Japan, Korea, South American and the United Kingdom.

"Obviously, we want to replace Zura as soon as possible, but we need to get this right.

"We are not going to jump on the first thing that becomes available and regret it six months down the line."

Newcastle's last two marquee recruits have both failed to fire and the club desperately needs a result against Perth Glory this weekend to keep in touch with the A-League leaders.
