Richard Cann Pim Verbeek's first test looms. Australia's first World Cup qualifier against Qatar in Melbourne on the February 6 will see how successful he is at getting our stars back to play. With Premiership matches on the Saturdays before AND after the Wednesday match it'll be interesting to see if Cahill, Kewell, Schwarzer, Emerton and others make the trip - I'm assuming Viduka won't.

There have been encouraging signs, but getting them back here is only the first step. Will the big boys respond to the former assistant boss of Borussia Mönchengladbach? It was a bit harder to say no to the mighty Guus. We'll see...

Ernie Spared The Axe
Spared the axe maybe, but gee it's hanging very close to his neck. As club chairman Geoff Lord said: "To not make the finals would be unacceptable."

Sydney United At Rudan Farewell
Sydney are finally united... in happiness. If you were a fan of the big man you'll be pleased that he has an opportunity in Japan and wasn't suspended for his farewell, and if you weren't, it's good riddance. Personally I reckon he'll be missed.

Panic Stations at Victory
Ah, the rollercoaster that is football. Remember, don't cheer too loudly when you win, 'cause you could fall flat pretty quickly. It's just great to see Melbourne fans start to question things again so soon.
