What a difference a year makes hey? Adelaide have had the sort of rapid fall from grace normally reserved for Australian Idol winners. If we rewind 12 months you'd find The Reds gearing up for their trip to Japan for the 2008 Club World Cup with the likes of Manchester United, while they sat at the summit of the A-League. Today they are rooted to the bottom of the A-League ladder. The ultimate indignity came as they got turned over by chief wooden spoon chasers North Queensland Fury at the weekend.

It was a three-way battle, then a two-horse race, now it's increasingly like watching Usain Bolt trying to catch his last bus home as Melbourne ominously moved five points clear at the top of the table after thrashing a Gold Coast team assembled from unknowns, youth players and seemingly anyone knocking round the Melbourne area looking for a game on Saturday. Zac Anderson? Steven Lustica? Ben Wearing? It was like getting tickets to watch a reformed 80s super band and them playing a load of "new material".

Elsewhere, Sydney continued to falter with their third loss in a row against an attacking looking Newcastle side, while Central Coast forget how to score like it was going out of fashion and Brisbane beat Wellington with the non-Melbourne Muscat getting sent off for once.
