So Sydney are the first team past the post, with another three games against Melbourne before they actually win the title. Two cracking goals won the plate for the Sky Blues, including a Karol Kisel effort. Kisel, who is like your mate in the bar who tries it on with every girl until one of them is interested, has managed to stack up 37 shots this season (an amazing 29 of which were off-target) for his two goals.
Before Sunday's title crowning there were some dead rubbers and final positions to sort out and nothing seemed deader than the performance of the Mariners in their final game under Lawrie McKinna as they crashed 3-0 at Wellington. Newcastle Jets continued to nose-dive further into last season's wooden spoon winning form by losing to goal shy Adelaide, who managed to score twice in a single game. Well done lads, next try and keep a clean sheet.
Perth turned over Brisbane on Saturday to secure fifth and a tricky trip to Wellington in the finals. For once the Monday newsletter is not ironically applauding the efforts of North Queensland Fury after they ended the season with a victory over third placed rivals Gold Coast to finish seventh. When you look at that squad in their first season, seventh is a near miraculous effort for the Fury boys.
