Your Week in Football
|
In lieu of the A-League wrapping up last week, the newsletter will now be turning our attention to serving up world football in future weeks, but not before we've concluded this season with the customary back-slapping, hair-ruffling and cheek-pinching that are the end of season awards.
On the Gold Coast, Jason Culina interestingly won Player of the Season (interesting because Shane Smeltz came second for the Johnny Warren medal, but he isn't even the best at his club - nothing like keeping your most expensive asset happy, hey?).
Over in Perth, Colin Todd landed the rather cheesy title of 'Most Glorious Player', beating Jacob Burns and Naum Sekulovski in to second and third respectively. In Melbourne, Archie Thompson hobbled his way to his second Victory Medal, while rivals Sydney handed their top honour to Alex Brosque and young defender Luke DeVere cleaned up at the Brisbane Roar awards.
But what do they know hey? The far more objective awards run-down comes from yours truly, and we've gone all gooey over Wellington's curly-haired marksman with Paul Ifill winning both Player of the Season and Import of the Season in the 2010 FourFourTwo A-League awards. Get a full run-down of our award winners here, but be warned Newcastle Jets fans - Joel Griffiths picks up an accolade!
To get an insight into the discussions and arguments behind who won what, check out this week's FourFourTwo Insider Podcast.
