Your Week in Football

The A-League's current top four - Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and North Queensland - not a championship winner amongst them, but a couple of wooden spooners instead! However, more alarming this week wasn't the topsy-turvy nature of the league's ladder, more a load of playacting and terrible refereeing that marred the entire round.
Friday night started with the unbeaten forces of Brisbane and Wellington, where after a series of missed one-on-ones, it was Brisbane who scored through (who else?) ex-Phoenix player Kosta Barbarouses.
Saturday was a night of South American skill/shame, first up was another goal-fest cracker featuring those Townsville boys, but this time it was the opposition who outscored them, with Adelaide running out 3-2 winners. Here we saw Adelaide's Brazilian Cássio run down the clock (geddit?), with some classic South American rolling around on the touchline.
The second encounter of the night displayed another supreme talent of those South Americans, with Central Coast's Patricio Perez performing the most obvious of dives to win a penalty. Messi's old mate duly converted the spot kick to tie the game 1-1 with Sydney and that's how it remained.
Sunday saw last season's second and third placed team go in search of their first win this term. A Smeltz and Porter-less Gold Coast look suitably toothless as they went down 1-0 to Melbourne Victory thanks to a Robbie Kruze goal, in front of just 3,624 fans!
The final game witnessed Perth Glory remain unbeaten as a late Robbie Fowler penalty (won through another dodgy dive!) shared the spoils with Melbourne Heart. The Glory now have more points at AAMI Park than both of the Melbourne franchises combined...
