Your Week in Football

When young Aussies should move overseas and how much the A-League should be treated as merely a development league has been at the core of this weekend's discussions after Central Coast Mariners rejected Borussia Dortmund's initial move for young gun Mustafa Amini. The Mariners deemed the offer "disappointing" for the 17-year-old who has just spent time on trial at the German giants.

Last year Dortmund were forced to make three bids for Melbourne Victory's Australian goalkeeper Mitchell Langerak before securing his services. We think it's good to see A-League clubs sticking up for themselves and if Dortmund really want the afro-haired playmaker, then they should pay a decent amount.

On the other end of the age scale (sorry, Schwarzy, but it's true!) and evergreen Socceroos stopper Mark Schwarzer insists he can play for Australia at the 2014 World Cup despite the fact he'll be into his fourties when the tournament comes around! For those who can remember him, former Everton and Wales keeper Neville Southall had a prolonged career between the sticks and he was, well, not in the quite the same shape as Schwarzer either! Check out some of Southall's finer moments here.

In other news, Roy Keane's manager has rubbished reports linking the former Manchester United skipper with the vacant Melbourne Victory post, while Socceroo forward Brett Holman says he's no longer dreaming of a switch to the English Premier League and is content with life in the Dutch Eredivisie with AZ Alkmaar.

Tickets are also about to go on sale for the Johnny Warren Football Foundation Annual Sydney Gala Dinner taking place on 25th May. Further details of the night, plus the special guests in attendance, can be found on the foundation's website here.
